Who We Are & Why We’re Different

Katherine West Health Board (KWHB) is a community-led Aboriginal health service delivering integrated primary healthcare, allied health, and wellbeing programs across more than 160,000 km² of remote NT — stretching from the Victoria River country along the WA border to the tip of the Tanami desert.

Our work is grounded in cultural security, guided by community control, and driven by long-term impact. From maternal health to disability support, we build trusted relationships that lead to real outcomes for our mob in the bush.

As an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation, we value inclusion, local leadership, and purpose-driven people. We’re not your typical workplace — and we’re proud of that.

Two Great Roles. One Shared Mission to Empower Community Voices

We are about to embark on Growing Up Looked After, a crucial research and community engagement initiative to map the current status of child and family services funding in the Big Rivers region, and develop a plan to support the transfer of services to the Aboriginal community-controlled sector.

We’re hiring for two exciting new roles to lead this work. These positions will work in close partnership to explore the current landscape of child and family services in the Big Rivers region—drawing on evidence, listening deeply to community voices, and engaging with key stakeholders. Together, they will ensure that lived experience and data-informed insights are embedded into a strategic roadmap that strengthens services and outcomes for Big Rivers children and families into the future.

  • Prepare detailed reports and recommendations for future service delivery

Why These Roles Matter

These aren’t back-office jobs — they’re opportunities to help shape the future of child and family services across some of the most remote communities in Australia. Whether you're engaging directly with families on the ground or researching national strategies, you’ll contribute to a future where funding and decision-making are driven by and for Aboriginal communities.

You'll join a close-knit team with deep local experience and a grounded, supportive manager. This is a space where trust and long-term relationships matter — and where your work will directly influence future models of care.

You Know Community. We Know You Belong Here

We’re looking for people who aren’t just qualified — but committed. People who understand the importance of walking alongside community, listening deeply, and following through.

For the Project Officer role (Full PD here), you’ll bring practical coordination skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. You’ll be confident navigating logistics and admin, and excited to learn and grow in a community-focused role.

For the Project Coordinator role (Full PD here), you’ll bring the skills to lead a region-wide consultation and reform project. You know how to listen, analyse, and turn insight into strategy — and you’re ready to advocate for long-term, structural change.

Why This Role Will Reward You
  • Great salary packaging
  • Relocation assistance available for the right candidate
  • Travel and accommodation support for remote work
  • Professional development opportunities
  • Preferred location is Katherine, but Darwin may be considered
  • A values-aligned team with a supportive internal culture
If You're Ready to Join a Project with Purpose

These roles offer the chance to contribute to a future where Aboriginal communities are leading the design and delivery of services for their own children and families.

Apply now and help shape that future with KWHB.
